    Description

    I am not certain of the original purpose of this signed Hawkes circa 1920 ABP cut glass covered bowl.  Perhaps it was made to be used as a large dresser jar, or perhaps it was made to hold small cakes or cookies. It is in Hawkes Sheraton or Hawkes Millicent pattern which is made up of ribbons or stripes of fine adjacent parallel cut lines.  The cover of the bowl or jar has intaglio cut scenes depicting flowers as well as baskets and cornucopias of flowers and fruit interspersed between the stripes and on the top of the mushroom formed central finial or handle.  The underside of the bottom portion is signed with Hawkes tri-lobe acid etched mark.  The diameter of the jar is 9".  The height, not including the central handle on the cover is 3 1/4".  This piece is in very good condition with only some extremely tiny minor frits on the top rim of the lower portion, and a little expected wear on the bottom.
