    Description

    HOPKINS CONFECTIONERS COLLECTABLE CANDY TIN
    MANASSAS VIRGINIA (A 1908-1916 Replica)
Measures approx 6" x 4.5" x 4". It is mostly green ink on a gold background with black and white lettering. An image of their building up to 1916 appears on the front and back of the container.  As you will read in the quoted text below, the company only existed until 1916.  The made TEN TONS OF CANDY DAILY for sale in 11 states.
"The Hopkins Candy Company began production here in 1908. It was a modern production facility with the latest candy producing machines, coal-fired copper kettles, state-of the-art commercial lighting, and a freight elevator for raw materials and finished products. The company enjoyed high production, 5-10 tons daily, and low operations costs due to mechanical upgrades and immediate access to rail transportation for finished orders, and distribution of raw materials from train to factory stations. The original Hopkins Candy Company manufactured candy from a small building on West Street. The upgrade in factory facilities expanded company products to different candy types, cereal products, confectionery products, crackers, and extracts to its list of catalog items. The company sales force worked territories in every state east of the Mississippi River.  Although the Hopkins Candy Factory was a successful business, by 1916 the company was no longer producing products."
This container is styled after one of their containers during the 1908 to 1916 era. It is a 2007 reproduction sold at The Manassas Museum here in Northern Virginia.
This is not vintage. This is not an antique. Read the paragraph above.
